A total of six Risk Engineering and Field Operations Inspectorates under the National Occupational Health and Safety Service yesterday commenced with their one week training on Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to enhance their knowledge and competencies in delivering the service provided by the Employment Ministry.
The Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Mr. Osea Cawaru on behalf of the Fijian Government, expressed his sincere appreciation to Mr. Jon Fedje who has spent more than 10 years as a consultant and trainer with the Advance Technology Testing and Research (ATTAR) of Australia for agreeing to conduct the NDT training to the selected OHS Inspectorates.
Mr. Cawaru reminded the participants on their key role as OHS Inspectorates is to facilitate, provide advice and enforce safety engineering principles through NDT. This is to improve reliability, health and safety in all workplaces through the application of recognised standards, codes of practice and best practices to improve technological compliance and minimize OHS risks.
Mr. Fedje also thanked the Ministry for the opportunity given and looks forward to the interaction with the course participants during this one week training in moving towards Internationally Recognized NDT Certification.
The last Non-Destructive Test training was conducted in 2008 also by the same service provider, Advance Technology Testing and Research (ATTAR). This was carried out to support the roll-out of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Reform.
The training will end on Saturday, 07th September 2019 with a practical and theory exam as part of the OHS Inspectors’ accreditation to Level One Certification to Australian Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (AINDT).
