17/06/2015

Government’s Divisional Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea today received the United States of America resident Ambassador to Fiji, Her Excellency Judith Beth Cefkin.

Briefing Ambassador Cefkin, Mr Vocea said that the Commissioner Northern’s Office under the Fijian Government envisioned a better and prosperous Vanua Levu for all Fijians under the Look North Policy.

“We want to grow the economy of the Northern Division, create sustainable living, reduce poverty and encourage landowning units to better use their lands,” Mr Vocea said.

He said his office focused on creating more awareness on the various services of government in the three provinces of the North.

“We have a total population of around 135,961 which is about 16.2 per cent of the Nation’s population,” Mr Vocea said.

Ambassador Cefkin said her visit to the North was to look at how the American government can assist in the process of developing the Northern Division.

“My purpose of being here today is to learn more about Vanua Levu and get to meet the people because as ambassador, one of my goals is to meet people, to understand and help the people know about the United States,” Ms Cefkin said.

Ms Cefkin said this was a wonderful chance to continue to build the bond of friendship between Fiji and the United States.
