The National Substance Abuse Advisory Council (NSAAC) of the Ministry of Education has organized three major activities scheduled for the Northern Division in March.
These include the Training of Trainers, Peer Education Training and the 2004 Repeat Survey on Student Substance Use/Abuse Survey.
In addition, two sets of Evaluation forms; the Good News Story Form and the Fiji STAHS and Drugs School Broadcast Airing Time Evaluation will be implemented also.
The Training of Trainers for Teachers and the Peer Education Training has embarked on the Life Skills Based Education approach in addressing Drug Use Prevention.
This encompasses a balance in Knowledge, Attitude and Life Skills; and the training will be intensive.
The Training of Trainers for Teachers is a two day workshop and is scheduled for three training centres.
A total of 67 Primary and Secondary schools are targeted whereby one teacher per school is expected to attend. The first training will target 18 Bua Teachers and this will be held at the Boys Scouts Hall in Labasa, from 8th -9th March 2010.
The second training will target 28 Savusavu teachers. This is scheduled for 11th -12th March and this will be held at the Provincial Administrator‘s Conference Room. Finally, the third training will be held at the Vale ni Bose in Somosomo, Taveuni.
The number of participants expected is 21 and the training will be held from 17th- 18th March 2010.
This year NSAAC intends to mainly focus it’s training in the Northern Division because they are mostly left out for such trainings due to their locality.
