New Itaukei books ready

16/09/2010

A first of its kind iTaukei language text books for Forms Five, Six, and  Seven will be launched by the Minister for Education  Mr Filipe Bole on Saturday the September 25 at the Fiji Teachers Association hall in Suva.

Written by Mr Etonia Lote, a former school teacher, the text books titled “Moli Koula” includes a pupils workbook called ‘Coke ni Molikoula’ and a teachers guide  ‘Uto ni Moli Koula’.

The project was funded by the Fijian Trust Fund.

Mr Lote said the scarcity of new indigenous Fijian language text books in our schools was a reason for his production.

“The only few indigenous Fijian language text books have been in use for more than 30 years now and it is sad that there are no new books to replace them,” Mr Lote said.

He assured that the new text books would be interesting to both students and teachers.

Published by Max Marketing the ‘Moli Koula’  is being distributed by Etonia Lote Distributors.

“The other reason for writing this book is the knowledge that there are only two things that identify a person, his language and his culture,” Mr Lote added.

The inception of the ‘Moli Koula’ (Indigenous Fijian language text book ) is another milestone in education in Fiji.
