New road brings relief

The opening of the new Government road at Naqeledamu, Bau in Tailevu brings a sigh of relief to the villagers after a very long wait.

Turaga-ni-koro in Naqeledamu Village, Ratu Napolioni Vulakauvaki said: "It has been a long wait and we feel that our prayers have been answered."

"Walking long-distance now will a thing of the past for our school children.

"For more than twenty years, our children have to walk four kilometers to catch a bus or any form of transportation to get to school.

"This has been hindering them from progressing further fro most of them are tired once they enter into their classrooms

"The villagers also find it hard to transpoort their produce to the market.

"Thanks to Government for coming to our aid and this new development means better future for the people of Naqeledamu," he said.

Naqeledamu village belongs to the district of Bau in Tailevu but is located 4kilometres off the Kings Road beside Verata Village in Nausori.

Ratu Vulakauvaki said they also hope that buses will soon provide service to the village.

The road that led to Naqeledamu was built as an access road in the 80's and no one was responsible for its maintenance over the past years.

Minister for Works and Transport, Mr Timoci Lesi Natuva while opening the new road said: "This road now belongs to Government and we will make sure that it is upgraded to the standard required of all national roads."
