07/07/2010
Communities should partner with Government in the development of our nation, says Divisional Planning Officer Central, Mr Samuela Saudranu.
Mr Saudranu made the comments while handing over keys of a newly built teachers quarters at Vanuakula Catholic Mission School in Vanuakula village, Naitasiri.
“The successful completion of this new teacher’s quarter is through your partnership with Government,” Mr Saudranu told the people of Vanuakula.
“Government congratulates the school committee, management, teachers and members of the community for your tireless efforts in ensuring teachers are accommodated.

“Government’s intention through the People’s Charter for Change, Peace and Progress is to make Fiji a knowledge-based society.
“Today’s achievement is a true indication of Government and the

working together towards making this a reality for our children.
“If we continue in this manner, our children will prosper in the future.
“Government is willing to assist in more developments if we take the initiative and make a start.
“Government will partner with you through such developments to ensure its maximum benefits reach our children.
“Your hard work should also serve as example for other communities and rural-based schools not to depend on Government to provide everything for progress,” Mr Saudranu emphasized.
Government through the Commissioner Central’s Office in Nausori donated $19,000 worth of building material while the school committee contributed $1500 towards the new quarters.
“We paid for the carpenter as well while the community or village men for the four villages around Vanuakula helped in the construction,” head teacher of the school Mr Jone Benedito said.
“We have seven teachers and six are living in the quarters while one is living in a settlement outside Vanuakula.
“This development will really help us in our delivery to the children and we thanked Government for their role,” Mr Benedito said.
Mr Saudranu also toured the school’s teacher’s quarters, dormitories and dining hall.
The school has a roll of 250 students from the villages of Vanuakula, Lomai, Vatulili and Korovou in Waidina, Naitasiri.
