Students are not to be fined for any misdemeanor committed in school.
“The collection of any money as a form of penalty for students not adhering to school rules will not be entertained,” said the Education Minister, Mr Filipe Bole.
“There are better ways of correcting a child for misbehaving or littering carelessly. The Government through the Ministry of Education is providing financial assistance to parents in the removal of bus fares and provision of textbooks.
“Imposing of fines will create another financial burden on parents.”
Principals and head teachers are reminded to see that no fines are imposed on students and there is no unnecessary collections of money in schools.
Any fundraising activity must be approved by the ministry.
