No mercy for students charged in school brawls

13/07/2010

The Minister of Education, Mr Filipe Bole has stated that any students caught and charged by police for unruly behavior and school brawls should not expect any mercy from the authority.

“Go straight home after school and don’t loiter around town”, these are the words of the Minister for Education, Mr Filipe Bole, after the recent reported cases of student brawls in Suva.

“Once a student is charged, the offence will be in his or her file and chances of getting employed or travelling overseas would be very slim as the student already has a bad record with the police”, the Minister said.

Mr Bole said, “Students must be reminded that most employers, including the civil service, now need police clearance as a criteria for employment. No employer will want to employ somebody with a tainted record.”

Furthermore the Minister advises parents and teachers to talk to their children and keep on reminding them that once they get into the wrong side of the law, they will be officially charged by the Police and no one can interfere on their behalf.
