All schools intending to oraganise fundraising projects must first get approval from the Ministry of Education.

The Minister of Education Mr Filipe Bole says, “we understand that it is costly to run schools these days but school management must never push the onus onto parents”.

“Time and again parents continue to ring the Ministry of Education raising their concern over the amount of fundraising going on in our schools particularly at primary level,” Mr Bole said.

“Schools are allowed to have only one fundraising activity in a year. To do that school committees need to obtain the approval of the permanent secretary for Education.

“The fundraising must be project based with a  completion date for the project clearly stated and should not exceed one year from the date of the fundraising,”  the minister said.

Schools are required to acquit all funds raised using the Ministry of Education acquittal process and procedures and must have this acquittal file available in the school office to be inspected by officers from the ministry at any time.

Tuition fees Free Grant are paid by the Government at the amount per child as determined by the Differential Resourcing Formula. For instance, Primary tuition fees free grant is about $30 per child for urban schools and increases in relation to the disadvantaged index for a particular school.
