OFFICIALS CAUTION PUBLIC AGAINST SWIMMING IN FLOOD WATERS
OFFICIALS CAUTION PUBLIC AGAINST SWIMMING IN FLOOD WATERS
09/04/2012
The Fiji Police Force today issued a strong word of caution following the discovery of a middle aged male found in the Waimanu river earlier today. Authorities are investigating the exact cause.
In a separate incident the body of a 61 year old male was found under the Tunalia bridge in Nadi. While police have yet to release the results of their investigation, it is believed that the victim was swimming with family and friends when he got stuck in a culvert.
The confirmed drowning death toll now stands at 7.
Officials are now calling on the public to exercise a greater degree of caution and again warns against swimming in flooded waters or rivers with strong currents. If you see anyone entering flood waters, alert authorities immediately.
