OHS SERVICE CAUTION EMPLOYERS THIS RAINY SEASON

25/01/2012

The National Occupational Health and Safety Service of the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment cautions employers on their Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) duty of care under the Health and Safety Act, (HASAWA) 1996.

The Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Mr Filipe Bole reminds employers on their OHS statutory obligations under Section 9 of the HASAWA during this period of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning around the nation.

Mr Bole emphasized that under section 9(1) of the HASAWA, every employer shall ensure the health and safety of all its workers at all times.

He said that as schools have begun this week, employers are requested to be mindful of the current weather conditions and take appropriate measures to prevent any loss of life or accidents as most workers are sole bread winners.

The Minister wishes to remind employers to be wary of the current weather conditions and to make proper OHS decisions for their workers, whilst maintaining productivity in a sustainable manner.
