Fiji’s Ministry of Health’s proposal to progress on a Memorandum of Agreement between the ministry and the awardee of the contract for the outsourcing of the Mortuary Services at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) has been endorsed by Cabinet.
“Cabinet earlier this year on October endorsed the progress and developments undertaken on the outsourcing of the morgue services,” said health minister Dr Neil Sharma.
“In October, the Major Tender Board awarded the contract to Suva Funeral Directories after the tender was called on July this year.”
“The contract was awarded for two years subject to renewal based on performance,” Dr Sharma added.
Dr Sharma that part of the agreement was for the contractor to provide a 24hours service every day and also to employ three existing morgue staff of the ministry.
Also was for the contractor to refurbish the existing facility and introduce a modernize facility with improved services and also the autopsy room, replacing the autopsy tables and appropriate embalming facility with new instruments and also provide necessary training for embalming to the Ministry of Health staff.
The agreement according to the minister also stipulated that all facilities and equipment will be handed over to the health ministry once the contract expires. The MOA will be signed in the next few days.
