Youth groups from six villages in the district of Levuka and Lovoni on the island of Ovalau recently received a timely assistance from Government to assist the groups in their youth projects.
The Waitovu, Ucuimua, Loru, Nukutocia, Veilomani and Buca Youth groups are currently registered with the Ministry, received brush cutters and building materials for their piggery farm.
Members of these youth clubs were also part of the Seeds of Success and Empowerment programme conducted by the Ministry early this year.
In presenting the equipment to the youth clubs, Ministry’s director for youth and sports Mr William Naisara stressed that through the Ministry’s programmes, government aims to prepare young people for future leadership roles. He said that through the assistance presented to the youths, they should be able to improve their livelihood and generate income for themselves and their families.
“Through your achievements and monthly reports, the Ministry will be able to assist you further if you keep expanding your projects, added Mr Naisara.
The six youth groups are also actively involved in farming projects that include vegetable, root crops, yaqona and livestock farming.
Waitovu Youth Club leader Navitalai Seu stated that apart from farming his group voluntarily cleans Levuka town every month, and with the new brush cutters donated by the Ministry they will be able to help keep their village and town clean and tidy.
“Through the Seeds of Success training we have learnt that we can make a difference in our families and communities and we must appreciate people of all races and backgrounds for they are also part of our communities. Through this assistance we plan to buy more brush cutters to help the unemployed youths in our club, added Seu.
