Operation aimed at containing termites
Operation aimed at containing termites
05/05/2010
Containing the spread of termites will be the main priority for Operation Kadivuka. The Operation which starts will see personnel from various government ministries and departments move into termite infested zones. Also part of the teams will be officers from the National Fire Authority.
Checkpoints will be set up in biosecurity declared zones to restrict the movement of host materials such as wood.
“We will not restrict the movement of people but rather the movement of host materials which have the possibility of transporting the termites from one area to another. These host materials include timber and other wooden objects,” Mr. Ratucicivi said.
These zones include:
Zone 1 – Tomuka to Tavakubu (most infested)
Zone 2 – Natabua to Wairabetia Road (reports of infestation received)
Zone 3 – Naikabula to Drasa Dam Road (buffer zones/survey areas)
Complaints or queries on the termite infestation can be directed to the Operations Centre Hotline 6281553 or 6286198.
