The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation hosted a meeting with the Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) following a request by PRF to engage on areas of mutual interest.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in waste management and recycling initiatives that support sustainable tourism development, exploring practical partnerships between government, industry stakeholders and community-based programmes to enhance Fiji’s environmental resilience and tourism sustainability.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka; the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ms. Salaseini Daunabuna; and the Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association, Ms. Fantasha Lockington.

PRF Founder, Mr. Amitesh Deo, together with the Foundation’s Campaigns and Activities Manager, Mr. Dhanjay Deo, provided an overview of PRF’s upcoming initiatives and outlined opportunities for collaboration with government and industry stakeholders.

Discussions highlighted the strong alignment between community-based recycling initiatives and the sustainability objectives of Fiji’s tourism sector. As international travellers become increasingly eco-conscious, responsible waste management and grassroots recycling efforts are recognised as strengthening Fiji’s positioning as a sustainable and competitive destination.

The Deputy Prime Minister, the Permanent Secretary, and the Chief Executive Officer of FHTA reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration with PRF, supporting key campaigns and practical, on-the-ground initiatives that advance sustainable tourism development under the Coalition Government.
