The Keiyasi Town Development Project is progressing as scheduled, with Phase 1 set to near completion by October 2025. This was confirmed by the Minister for Housing & Local Government, Hon. Maciu Nalumisa, during a site visit where he met with contractors to review the progress of the project.
Phase 1 of the project, with an investment of $10.4 million focuses on essential civil works to prepare the site for the next phase of development. Phase 2 will involve the construction of key civic buildings and public amenities that will serves the residents of Keiyasi and surrounding areas.
Minister Nalumisa highlighted the importance of the project, stating that it is a key priority for the Coalition Government.
“This project is one of the key areas that the coalition government is working on right now is to try and bring the services closer to the communities as well as also promote come areas around Fiji where people don’t need to go down to the main urban center’s especially here in the two provinces of Nadroga-Navosa,” he said.
The completion of the Keiyasi Town Development Project is expected to significantly boost the local economy and contribute to the national GDP. The development will feature a new town center, commercial and industrial sites and facilities for key services such as the National Fire Authority (NFA) and government agencies.
“This project is not only going to transform Keiyasi but it will also uplift the surrounding regions by providing better access to essential services and economic opportunities,” he added.
More than nine hectares of land has been allocated for the project, which is part of the Ministry of Local Government’s urban planning and management programme, aimed at fostering regional development and supporting local communities.
