Suva- The President of the United States of America Mr Donald Trump has conveyed his sincere appreciation to Fiji’s Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama for his congratulatory remarks on the occasion of the 244th anniversary of the United States’ Independence Day.
In a special message from the White House to the Prime Minister, Mr Trump conveyed the gratitude of the American people to Mr Bainimarama for his thoughtful remarks.
The message was delivered by the United States Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Joseph Cella during a courtesy call on the Prime Minister this morning.
“The Fourth of July is an especially important day for America as we reflect our Nation’s history and our proud traditions of democracy and freedom,” Mr Trump said in the letter.
“This Independence Day, we celebrate and honour the sacrifices made by those who have stood for securing the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness throughout America’s history.
“We endeavour to build upon our partnerships with friends and allies, and hope that our values and ideals provide inspiration to work together to face any challenges that may lie ahead.
“We also aspire for all people around the world to enjoy peace, prosperity and good health.”
Fiji and the United States of America formalised bilateral relations in 1971 and since then, the collaboration between the two countries have expanded into areas of socio-economic development, defence and security and people-to-people links.
