The Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama today received a courtesy call from French senators Mrs Catherine Procaccia, Mr Francois Longeot, Mr Robert Laufoaoulou and Mrs Dephine Bataille.
Mrs Catherine Procaccia has been a member of the French Senate since 2004 and is a senior executive and chairperson of the France-Pacific Island friendship group.
Mr Francois Longeot is the Vice-President of the friendship group and has been a member of the French senate since 2014.
Mr Robert Laufoaoulou is a teacher by profession and has been a member of the French senate since 1998 and is the chairman delegate of the friendship group, in charge of Fiji.
Mrs Dephine Bataille is a parliamentary assistant and a member of the French senate since 2011.
During their meeting, Prime Minister Bainimarama reiterated his Government’s appreciation to France for assisting Fiji following the aftermath of Cyclone Winston.
“On behalf of the Fijian Government and the people of Fiji, I want to welcome you all to Fiji and thank you personally for the assistance provided in the aftermath of TC Winston in the form of military aircraft and engineers who assisted in the provision of medical services and transport of relief items,” PM Bainimarama said.
During their talks at his office, the Prime Minister also thanked France for hosting Fijian rugby players and for looking out for them through their various French clubs.
The Senators were accompanied by France’ Ambassador to Fiji, H.E Mr Michel Djokovic, Mr Olivier Vaysset, Deputy Head of Mission, Mr Michael Jehenne, Interpreter and Ms Moira Raduva, Press Attaché.
