PM CALLS FOR YOUTH TO BE PROUD OF FIJI'S MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY

Today marks the 2012 National Youth Day celebrations around the country and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has called on the youths of Fiji to be proud of Fiji’s multicultural society and continue to learn from other ethnic groups for betterment.

“It is the vision of my government that we will have a society inclusive of all Fijians, working towards one common goal,” Prime Minister Bainimarama said.

The head of government reiterated the pivotal role played by Fiji’s youth as the nation moves towards elections in 2014 and has them to participate in the Constitutional Commission submission process.

“Each of you can play a historic role in this process. Your contribution is vital to your future and to the future of this country and lowering the voting age to eighteen years is a historic opportunity for Fiji’s youth to participate in the 2014 democratic elections,” Prime Minister Bainimarama said.

The Prime Minister highlighted that government has recently upgraded the Department of Youth and Sports to a Ministry to ensure that the reforms undertaken take into account the contribution of Fiji’s young generation.

“We have provided various educational and vocational opportunities to develop academic and capacity building (for youths) in the country.”

“The 2012 National Youth Day Theme “My Identity, My Talent, My Tomorrow – Youths of Today as Agent for Positive Change” reflects the vibrancy of the youth of Fiji the contributions that can be made from this,” the Prime Minister added.
