PM officially opens Novotel Suva

The opening of the Novotel (formally the Tradewinds Hotel ) marked a significant event in the development of Fiji’s well-known hotels – Novotel Suva a refurbishment from its previous design and name -Tradewinds at Lami Bay.

Officially opening the new brand name hotel, The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said the Novotel Suva includes the largest conferences facilities in Suva with eight meeting rooms.

“The CP – (Charles Pandey) group of companies needs to be commended for thisquality approach to this refurbishment of this landmark hotel.
The investment by the CP group of companies in this project, which I understand is in excess of $5m is most welcome. It will no doubt create employment opportunities.”

The Accor group has been operating in Fiji since 2006 provides a range of branding through its properties such as Sofitel, Novotel and Mecure Nadi and now Novotel Suva. The Accor group has also set up a ‘Cure Kids Fiji’ Fund, which positively affects the lives of the sick children.

The Vice President, Accor Hospitality New Zealand and Fiji, Mr Paul Richardson said the Accor group of Hotels provides employment to nearly 1000 people in Fiji and the creation of ‘Cure Kids’ fund it is committed to the community of Fiji.

“The core employees have raised more than $550,000, which is used in providing new lifesaving equipment to the children of Fiji”.

The PM commended such efforts and said Government is committed to provide the basic infrastructure and other social abilities to all the
Fijians and at the same time committed to provide a liberalized economy which will provide an investor friendly environment.

“Approximately 24 per cent is contributed by the tourism sector to the GDP. My Government supports this industry as demonstrated through our funding for Tourism Fiji.

“No doubt the new airlines routes and the new airlines coming to Fiji would provide the added advantages. I believe it is through the premise of my Government which is thinking out side the box that Government and the private sector can collaborate to bring about the much needed reforms and consequent prosperity to Fiji and our people”.
