The Prime Minister and Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commodore Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama says the government quarters reforms also include those occupied by members of the RFMF and Prisons Department.

Speaking to members of the military forces during the first military parade this year at the military camp, Commodore Bainimarama explained details of the changes.

“You’ve heard of changes to our housing policies on government quarters, which started last year requiring officers whose services are frequently needed to occupy these quarters and will be paying 8 per cent of the rent,” Commodore Bainimarama said.

“Other officers who do not fall under this category will be paying the market rate."

Commodore Bainimarama said Government has gained an increase in rental incomes last year through this new arrangement, unlike past years when government housing policies and rents were not very clear.

“This housing reforms also include the military and prison” he said.

“This new change supposed to start on January 1, but I’ve moved it to the first pay week of March”

Commodore Bainimarama advised the military personnel on the need for buying their own home.

“We must now plan to buy our own homes,” the RFMF Commander said.

“Those who have been living in military housing quarters, should by now be ready to buy their own homes since they’ve been touring the Middle East for many years now.”
