Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama today opened the 7th Commonwealth Telecommunication Conference in Nadi.

He thanked the CTO office, its Chair, CEO and management for maintaining its independence notwithstanding the political pressure put on it.

“ It gives me much pleasure to welcome you all in particular those of you visiting Fiji, to the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization Forum,” he said.

“ The maintenance of its independence has meant that you all are here today and that the political is separated from the technological, separated from connectivity.

Commodore Bainimarama said after all communications and broadband, the focus of this conference, is about connectivity.

“It is about connectivity within a jurisdiction, between the rich and the poor, between the rural and the urban, between the government and its citizens,” he said.

“ It is also about connectivity between countries. Connectivity between countries means, understanding and accommodation, the removal of myths and rumours, it means to ascertain the truth and facts, and it means being a citizen in the global family.

Commodore Bainimarama said to cutoff that connectivity would mean injustice, it would mean isolation, intolerance, it would result in the loss of and access to knowledge, demonstrating ignorance and arguably arrogance.
