Remember the Fiji Police motto of “Salus Populi” and live up to it as you carry out your work as a police force.
That was the stirring reminder of Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka as he opens the new Lautoka Police Station this morning.
“The Police motto of “Salus Populi,” means service and safety of the population. That is what you should remember every time you put on those uniform, every time you go out on the beat, every time you go out on patrol.”
“Remember that the safety, and the security of the people of Fiji are in your hand, and they expect you to live up to their expectation,” PM Rabuka said.
The $30 million new police station on Drasa Avenue also houses the office of the Divisional Police Commander Western Division.
It replaces the old building which had to be demolished to make way for this purpose- built modern complex.
Recognising the significant milestone, Prime Minister Rabuka acknowledged the efforts of the Commissioner and his police officers, community leaders, and government officials in rebuilding the station, which dates back to 1899.
He also spoke about the importance of leadership, community cooperation, and preventive services.
Referring to recent knifing incidents in Lautoka and Naitasiri, the Prime Minister said these cases highlighted the need for improved policing and leadership.
Community and business leaders joined Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and other senior government officials at the commissioning of the new police station in Lautoka.
