THE new non-resident Ambassador for the Portuguese Republic to Fiji, His Excellency Paulo Cunho Alves, presented his credentials to His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at Government House this morning.
Ambassador Alves, who is based in Australia, has served in the Foreign Service since he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Portugal in 1987 as an attaché.
He completed his Masters in International Relations from the Technical University of Lisbon after having done his undergraduate degree in the same field from the same institution.
Ambassador Alves also served in Portugal’s foreign missions including in Brussels, The Hague in Netherlands and Maputo in Mozambique. He has also served as the chief technical advisor for Portugal’s permanent representation to the European Union as well as the consul general of Portugal to Boston, United States of America.
The diplomat, who has been decorated with the Great of Cross of the Order of Merit, Portugal, has been accredited to Australia since September 2013.
