President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere received a courtesy call from President of the Republic of Marshall Islands Her Excellency, Dr. Hilda C. Heine during at the State House today.
President Katonivere extended a warm welcome to President Heine and her delegation, expressing his gratitude for their visit to Fiji. He acknowledged the long-standing bilateral relations between Fiji and the Marshall Islands, emphasising the importance of continuing this strong partnership for the mutual benefit of both nations.
During their discussions, President Katonivere highlighted the Oceans of Peace initiative for our Blue Pacific to stand in solidarity and promote issues that are common to us all.He noted that these efforts could serve as a unifying message to world leaders. President Katonivere stressed the need for conservation efforts and sustainable ocean resource management to drive economic growth, improve livelihoods, and protect marine ecosystems.
Additionally, President Katonivere spoke about the richness and uniqueness of Pacific traditions and cultures, calling for solidarity among Pacific nations in the face of shared challenges.
In response, President Heine expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and acknowledged the enduring bilateral relationship between the two island nations.
She also reflected on the recent discussions held at the Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga, emphasizing the critical role of peace within the Pacific family and reaffirming a shared commitment to regional harmony.
President Katonivere thanked President Heine for looking after the interests of Fiji Citizens that now work and reside in the Marshall Islands.
