The President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, will depart Fiji today, to lead a delegation to the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York.
World leaders will gather for the annual high-level General Debate, focusing on the theme: "Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations."
President Katonivere is scheduled to deliver Fiji’s national statement during the General Debate on Thursday, 26th September 2024.
In addition to the General Debate, the Fiji delegation will also engage in key meetings on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
The UN General Assembly meets annually in September to address critical global issues through dedicated agenda items and resolutions.
President Katonivere’s participation in UNGA 79 highlights Fiji's steadfast dedication to global collaboration, sustainable development, and the advancement of peace, prosperity, and progress for all.
While His Excellency is away, Acting Chief Justice His Lordship Justice Salesi Temo will act in this position.
President Katonivere is scheduled to return to the country on Thursday 3rd October, 2024.
