PRIME MINISTER ARRIVES IN BRAZIL TO WELCOME RECEPTION AND TOUR OF THE OLYMPIC VILLAGE

The Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, has arrived in Rio de Janeiro to a welcome reception hosted by the Fijian Embassy in Brazil and a tour of the Olympic village where Fijian athletes will stay during the Games.

The Prime Minister expressed his delight to be with the Fijian Team in Rio to provide them with the collective encouragement of the nation and again said he was optimistic about Fiji’s prospects of winning its first gold medal at a summer Olympics.

He and Fiji’s Chef De Mission at the Games, Cathy Wong, were officially welcomed by Fiji’s Ambassador to Brazil, Cama Tuiloma, at a reception attended by other members of the Fijian community in the famous beachside suburb of Copacabana.

Later, Ms Wong welcomed the Prime Minister and Mrs Bainimarama to the Olympic Village in Barra, where the Fijian contingent is being accommodated, and the PM and his delegation witnessed the flag raising ceremony for the participating countries.

The Games officially begin with the opening ceremony on Saturday, Fiji time.
