PRIME MINISTER URGES TRADITIONAL LEADERS AND DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVES TO PRIORITISE DEVELOPMENT"

17/08/2023

Traditional leaders and District Representatives have been urged to continuously pursue development for their respective areas and their people.

In opening the Bua Provincial Council meeting in Nabouwalu today (17.08.23), Prime Minister Hon Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted that development is a continuous process and that Government and leaders have a role to play.

As a result of the growing population, PM Rabuka explained, development is inevitable.

He emphasised that growth in demography should also mean growth in all aspects including financial growth, the number of entrepreneurs, and employed people, and development with collaborative efforts between Government and the community.

He assured the council of Government’s commitment towards the development of communities, as reflected in the 2023-2024 National Budget, with opportunities and programs that are available, including the reintroduced Rural Housing Assistance.

PM Rabuka added that Fiji is fortunate to have strong ties with foreign nations who are willing to support and assist the government in its developmental endeavors.

“International relations are of utmost importance to a developing nation like Fiji. They offer opportunities for economic growth, technological advancements, cultural exchange, and diplomatic cooperation.”

Nonetheless, PM Rabuka urged the Bua Provincial Council not to hesitate to raise concerns in regard to development.

“Government is committed to addressing the needs and aspirations of the people, and your input has been instrumental in shaping the budgetary allocations,” said the Prime Minister.

“On that note, the Government is obligated to carry out a well-balanced development approach in all provinces, ensuring that opportunities are distributed evenly throughout the nation,” said the Prime Minister.

Additionally, he asked that they work with the Government and the Government officials that have been assigned to serve at their various stations in the province.

PM Rabuka will be opening the Cakaudrove Provincial Meeting tomorrow.
