The Pacific Regional Seminary [PRS] is the first higher education institution to be reviewed by the Fiji Higher Education Commission.
The review is a legal requirement where institutions are reviewed after five years of gaining their registration status. According to the Higher Education Promulgation 2009, an institution registered with the Commission shall be reviewed for quality assurance in accordance with the regulation.
A university or degree awarding institution shall be reviewed after seven years.
FHEC director, Salote Rabuka said that the review is part of the FHEC’s quality assuring of higher education institutions.
“The purpose of this is basically to verify that institutions have maintained the standards in which it was first registered,” Mrs Rabuka added.
PRS Rector, Fr Michael O'Connor said they are proud to be the first institution to be reviewed and looked forward to the report that will be drawn by the Review Committee. The Review Committee which is appointed by the Commission is chaired by Mr Niumaia Tabunakawai and three other members including Mr Manik Chand, Mrs Leba Halofaki and Mrs Susana Tuisawau.
Six other institutions are due for review this year and a total of twenty-eight higher education institutions have been fully registered by the FHEC while thirteen are provisionally registered. Seventy-two other institutions have been given recognition status and are yet to gain full registration.
The Pacific Regional Seminary of St Peter Chanel is the regional seminary of the Episcopal Conference of the Pacific (CEPAC), instituted by the Bishops to provide for the spiritual, theological, pastoral and priestly formation of their candidates for the priesthood.
