The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation will work closely with The University of the South Pacific in the future on projects carried out “in the best interest of the nation”.
This is after the Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with USP today to provide a framework to a number of activities including research projects, joint academic and scientific projects, exchange of academic and management staff.
Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Josefa Koroivueta, who signed the MOU with USP Vice Chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia, said, “There is no better platform than having the expertise of the university in areas of research”.
“So that we take a nose dive into the facts surrounding violence in children,” he added.
PS said the Ministry was honoured to seal a long-lasting cooperation that would make a difference to the social landscape present in the country.
“It’s a new gateway that will change the livelihoods of families of children to see that children in Fiji will get what they truly deserve and not the existing landscape where there is so much of violence and abuse happening within homes.”
He further added that the university will make a historical contribution to this particular area.
“Because we need to intervene in the best way, we need to strategize based on facts. It’s a partnership of difference that will continue to grow and I’m sure that we’ll put our shoulders together for this,” he said.
The signing of the MOU took place at The University of the South Pacific, Laucala Bay Campus.
