“The Constitution establishes the legal, democratic and social framework for the future of our nation, and in various ways its impacts on the work we are doing on Fiji’s road.”
These were the words of the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), Pio Tikoduadua during the official opening of the “Constitution and Governance Workshop” held at the Novotel Conference Centre today.
Mr Tikoduadua said the workshop will help the directors and senior management from the FRA set a positive example to other institutions.
“We must be vigilant and ask probing questions, whether transactions are fair and whether all stakeholders have been involved in the process,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
He stressed on the importance, need and benefit of good governance in public institutions.
“This workshop is important so we may continue along the positive path set by the major road renewal program announced in the 2013 budget this year,” Mr Tikoduadua added.
He further added that this workshop is designed to help the staffs of FRA deliver results, tackle challenges head-on, to think creatively and to act proactively
The FRA’s chief executive officer Mr Neil Cook commended the value of the workshop towards their own operations.
“FRA has a very good foundation. Our policies and procedures that are being developed are consistent with the constitution; however workshops like this need to be reinforced through demonstration from someone who is an expert in the field and how it relates to us as an organization,” Mr Cook said.
The 2-day workshop will see legal officials work with the FRA on various key provisions contained in the constitution that directly affect their work.
