The Permanent Secretary for the Public Service, Mr. Parmesh Chand, hosted an afternoon reception at Berkeley Crescent yesterday to farewell 10 volunteers with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) who have completed their two year tenure in Fiji. The volunteers have been in Fiji since September 2010.
Addressing the volunteers, Mr. Chand thanked them for serving with diligence and sacrificing their time to serve away from their families.
“You have served in remote rural areas and I commend you for your contributions and efforts. Your skills and expertise were critical areas of need for the respective Ministries, Departments and organisations who hosted you during your service in Fiji. Government is thankful for your service and we are also grateful for the continued assistance from the Government of Japan.”
The ten volunteers had served in Physical Education, Primary Education, Automobile Maintenance, Nursing, Public Health Nursing, Rural Community Development, Fishery Technology Education and Water Leakage Prevention.
Organisations that hosted the JICA Volunteers were the Fiji National University, Lautoka Special School, Monfort Technical Institute, Ministry of Health, Ra Provincial Office and the Water Authority of Fiji.
The volunteers were accompanied by the Director of the JICA Volunteer Program, Mr. EijiShibasaki.
