Officers from the Public Service Commission Workforce Performance unit will be conducting awareness sessions to civil servants in Suva, Labasa and Lautoka on the Conciliation Policy.
The Public Service Commission permanent secretary Mr Parmesh Chand said that the Conciliation Policy was an alternative tool for resolving grievances within the civil service. The Policy was issued by the Commission on August, 2012.
“We want all civil servants to be aware of this policy so that they are aware of the standard procedures required to address any issue that they want to raise a grievance about. This policy allows for the transparency of the grievance procedures in the civil service and also allows the PSC to ensure that the interests and welfare of our public servants are well looked after”, Mr Chand said.
"The Public Service Commission, as a responsible employer and the custodian for the Terms and Conditions of Employment for all civil servants developed the Conciliation Policy that will allow for prompt resolution of workplace issues. This is a proactive approach in assessing and resolving grievances in the civil service.”
He added that through the implementation of the Conciliation Policy, office issues and problems could be resolved rapidly and fairly to allow for improved working environment and productivity.
The awareness sessions will cover topics such as the appointment and role of conciliators, the relevant legislations associated with the policy, grievance procedures, the conciliation process and the resolving of the dispute.
The sessions will begin at the Centre for Training and Development in Nasese on October 15th before moving to the Commissioner Northern’s office in Labasa on October 24th. The final awareness sessions in Lautoka is scheduled for October 31st and will conclude on November 2nd at the Divisional Health Office Conference Room Lautoka.
