The Public Service Commission permanent secretary Mr Parmesh Chand this week signed a Partnership Agreement with the Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration (PICPA) and the Regional Centre for Continuing & Community Education (RCCCE) of the University of the South Pacific.
The agreement which was signed at the MBA Conference Room at the USP ICT Park, Statham Campus in Vatuwaqa, enables the PSC to seek technical and training assistance to improve service delivery through establishments of the Service Fiji Centres (SFCs).
At the signing of the agreement, Mr Chand said the concept of the Service Fiji Centre is based on the idea of improving Government’s service to the public and that the success of the SFCs would greatly depend on those who serve at the Centres.
Mr Chand thanked PICPA for facilitating the Partnership Agreement and commended its staff for organising the training program for the Service Fiji Centre staff. He also acknowledged the contribution of USP’s RCCCE as the training provider for this program.
“This has been a milestone for the Commission and indeed we could not have done this without PICPA and USP. I am told that Fiji is the first Pacific Island Country to sign a Partnership Agreement with PICPA. The PICPA is a regional initiative accommodated at USP and funded by the AUSAID”, Mr Chand said.
There are currently 25 officers who have started with the first of four modules of training.
“As we are aware, these individuals are into their second module of training and from reports received, they have been enthused with the new concepts and ideas that they have been taught. Although they number 25, the impact of this training will cascade down to the thousands of customers that been served at the SFC counters.”
SFCs are expected to open in Suva, Nausori, Labasa and Lautoka by the end of the year.
