The Public Service Commission has embarked on an outreach and Public Relations Exercise to improve communication and relations with employees throughout the public service.
Mr Parmesh Chand, Permanent Secretary for Public Service said that civil servants need to be made aware of the terms and conditions of employment and how best their concerns relating to welfare and working conditions can be addressed.
He said that this is an important component of the Reforms and it will help bring about improvements and efficiencies if we looked after well the interests, welfare and working conditions and environment of civil servants in the public service.
He said that the first phase of this Reachout Programme will focus on the larger Ministries in the greater Suva area.
The staff from the Employment Relations Division of the Public Service Commission will be visiting the Ministries to provide information and hold discussions on areas where working conditions and welfare of civil servants can be improved for achievements of higher levels of efficiency.
Mr Chand said the exercise will continue into the new Year, wherein the broader civil service would be covered.
Essentially, we would like to improve the Employee Relations in the public service on a one on one as well as collective basis.
This will also help in building up a loyal, committed and dynamic team to effectively achieve the objectives as enshrined in the People’s Charter for Change, Peace and Progress and the Roadmap for Democracy and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development.
