The Public Service Commission is preparing for the devolution of the Department of Multi Ethnic Affairs.
Public Service Commission permanent secretary, Mr Parmesh Chand says that a plan is being drawn up for devolution of the department and subsequent transfer of staffing, assets and role and functions to relevant line ministries.
The PSC itself will take on the scholarship aspect of the department, whereas the small grant scheme and cultural programmes will be integrated in other relevant line ministries.
Mr Chand said necessary consultations were underway and the transition would be smooth and would have no adverse implications on service delivery.
The devolution of the Department of Multi Ethnic Affairs was announced during the 2011 National Budget address.
This is in line with provisions of Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress to remove ethnic bias in government programmes and also commensurate with reforms in the Public Service to remove duplication, maximise use of resources through rationalisation and bring about improvements in service delivery.
