The Public Service Commission chairman Mr Josefa Serulagilagi and the PSC permanent secretary Mr Parmesh Chand welcomed the China Executive Leadership Academy Vice President Mr Jiang Haishan this week.
Mr Jiang, who arrived on Monday, will be the keynote speaker at the Civil Service Excellence Awards Night that will be held at the Vodafone Arena this Friday October 29.
Mr Serulagilagi said Government was grateful for the support extended by the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in enabling one of China’s renowned experts on leadership training to speak on the importance of Good and Effective Leadership within the civil service.
“China’s remarkable growth, its increasing prominence in the global economy and the challenges it faces towards its development into a harmonious society has aroused increasing attention globally,” Mr Serulagilagi said.
“Some developing countries would like to learn from China the governing experiences and lessons to develop their public sector practitioners skills for delivery of efficient, equitable and sustainable services.
“Fiji is blessed with the opportunity to be able to acquire information and knowledge through the speeches and briefings which Mr Haishan will provide in this instance.”
Mr Jiang has over 25 years of experience in education, especially international education exchanges and cooperation.
Before taking up the position of Vice-president of CELAP, he served as international student advisor in East China Normal University, director of International Office of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, vice president of Shanghai Institute of Technology and Director-General of International Exchange & Program Development, CELAP.
He is the Vice-President of Shanghai Municipal Education Association of International Exchanges.
He has contributed greatly to education exchanges between Shanghai and the world at large. Mr Jiang graduated from East China Normal University in 1978.
After studying in La Trobe University (1991) and the University of Queensland (2001), he was awarded a Master of Education Studies.
Mr Jiang is Associate Research Fellow of Education Studies with many articles published on international education studies.
A total of 35 ministries and departments will participate in this year’s Civil Service Awards Programme, the aim of the programme is to objectively review systems, processes and service delivery practices and also recognise excellence by respective agencies in this regard.
The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, will be the chief guest at the awards night.
