Public servants around the country have been fully mobilised to assist the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) with damage assessment, relief, recovery and rehabilitation works in the Northern and Western Division following the devastation left in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Evan.
Teams of civil servants are being deployed to undertake assessments on structural damages to infrastructure and housing, loss to livelihood, and damage to the environment.
“All Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments have been fully briefed by the Acting Permanent Secretary for Provincial Development and National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) as well as the Director of NDMO”, said the Public Service Commission permanent secretary Mr Parmesh Chand.
Mr Chand said that since the declaration of a State of Natural Disaster by Cabinet this week, government agencies have been working closely with the Ministry of Provincial Development and National Disaster Management in ensuring that there is sufficient manpower, resources and co-ordination on the ground to deal with the tasks at hand.
“Resources and equipment are being deployed to assist in this national operation, while at the same time all Government Ministries and Departments are maintaining the level of service delivery in the provision of normal work programs and activities.”
