Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki is urging those affected from the recent flooding in the western division to contact their district heads to receive government assistance.
This follows recent claims by members of the public that some have not received rations following the floods.
“We are working with the district officers and if you think that the assessment teams have missed you then please visit your respective DO’s,” he said.
When asked if there was separate ration distribution, Commander Cawaki responded that “the National Disaster Management Office together with the Commissioner Western’s office does the logistics of the ration distributions.”
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama last week toured the western division and instructed government officials in the west to carefully survey affected areas to ensure that no one was “missed out”.
"We must make sure that all affected communities are surveyed properly and damages assessed in accurate details. Also ensure that those communities in isolated areas are assessed and their needs considered," said PM”, Mr Bainimarama said.
Red Cross disaster coordinator, Eseroma Ledua says that the Fiji Red Cross Society is working together with the NDMO and the Commissioner western’s Office in supplying relief items to the people.
“Red Cross does not supply food items and that is why we work together with the two disaster and provincial offices in distributing this relief items,” Ledua said.
