The DISMAC office continues to urge members of the public who reside near flood prone areas to take precautionary measures and to remain on alert.
Ministry of Provincial Development permanent secretary Mr Inia Seruiratu said that while the disaster office is monitoring the situation, he is urging the public to “not take any chances”.
“Right now, one of our concern is for those living in areas that are vulnerable to flash flooding”, Mr Seruiratu said.
“The next high tide is at midnight so our team on the ground is also monitoring the situation”.
Mr Seruiratu is also urging the public to head warnings provided by the weather office. The latest weather update indicates that the outlook for both the central and western division will see a period of heavy rainfall in the coming days.
