Parents and students to be wary unrecognised Higher Education Institutions

20/01/2011

The Minister for Education is alerting parents and students to be wary of unrecognised higher education institutions.

As minister responsible for higher education Mr Filipe Bole said, “As results of Forms Seven and Six are coming out, many parents and students will be tempted to seek entrance to some higher education institutions.

“Parents and students are advised to first seek the assistance of the secretariat of Higher Education Commission to verify the legal status of institutions that they intend to enroll in.

“Previously, many students had to seek the intervention of the Ministry of Education over grievances of services offered by some higher education providers that were unsatisfactory.”

The minister said all higher education institutions that were operating without applying for provisional approval for recognition from the Higher Education Commission would be deemed illegal and the usual administrative process was going to apply to them.
