Parents should start advocating for better and more safer roads around the country says Permanent Secretary for Works and Transport, Cama Tuiloma.
In launching the National Road Safety week today, Mr Tuiloma pleaded with parents to be better advocates of road safety.
“ I plead and convey our gratitude to Parents who advocate for road safety to their children at home, and for teachers who take the road safety message into the classrooms each day and everyday.
“Today marks our first day of our National Road safety week targeted at creating awareness, promoting safety and showcasing road user behaviour, especially among our young people.
‘Our young people are our future and when we lose or disable young live on our roads, the loss and disability in some way or form, affects our entire future, as a nation”, he said.
Mr Tuiloma said the slogan for Road Safety week this year is ‘Road Safety is No Accident’.
“ This highlights the fact that, road safety happens not by accident, but as a result of the genuine, caring and responsible behaviour and attitude of all road user, to exercise control and caution, and to be safe on our roads’
“ Road deaths tolls have escalated drastically this year standing at 24 compared to18 the same period last year,” he said.
