The National Fire Authority (NFA) has received positive response from school students on NFA’s fire safety awareness programme. This comes after YMCA and YWCA pre-schoolers attended the Twistees Smokehouse school awareness programme held at NFA’s Suva station in Walu Bay on Thursday (29/04).
NFA community fire safety officer Mr Ame Baleitamavua said he was pleased with schools’ response towards the Smokehouse awareness initiative.
“They are the fifth school to attend this Smokehouse fire safety awareness programme this week. This programme is an effective medium to create awareness on fire safety.”
Student participants witnessed fire drills by NFA firefighters and met NFA’s mascot, Smokey. Part of the awareness for the pre-schoolers involved being in the smokehouse, a construction that simulates real life fire scenario.
NFA advises all schools to contact the fire station in their area to engage their students in this practical fire safety Smokehouse exercise. NFA has three Smokehouses each located in the West, North and the Central divisions.
NFA is grateful to Twistees through Goodman Fielder International (Fiji) LTD, Vodafone ATH, and Leadership Fiji for their sponsorship enabling students to learn important fire safety measures.
