Positive talks and alternatives to be offered to students

20/01/2011

It is imperative that positive words and alternatives are offered for students who do not make it through in the national 2010 examinations.

The Minister for Education, Mr Filipe Bole called on parents and guardians to be attentive to feelings of their children and at the same time be creative in their responses.

“If your child did not make it through in the FJC, FSFE or FSLC, please take time to sit them down and have a ‘heart to heart’ talk. Empathise with them and be positive in your approach. Lay out other alternatives and guide your child through choices he or she has to make,” Mr Bole said.

The minister added the Ministry of Education had a careers and a technical, vocational training section, which parents and students can consult if they were not accessible to school counselors and career teachers.

“There are the Careers Section and TVET under the Curriculum Development Unit within the Ministry of Education that can provide information for those needing assistance,” Mr Bole said.

“School leavers are urged to make wise and informed decisions  and I wish them well as they enter tertiary education or join  the work force.”
