His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has assured the nation of Government’s commitment towards the development of better education in Fiji.

Ratu Epeli said the new School of Law at the University of Fiji is an achievement, short of a miracle and those involved with this development deserve commendation.

"The spirit of true partnership between Government and Private initiative has been the hallmark of educational development in Fiji, government will continue to encourage this approach at all levels," he said.

He said Government is pleased to provide operational grants for the University  in the next three years for the sake of the young men and women studying in the two campuses. He is hopeful that this assistance is continued and increased in the future.

"In many ways Government and the University of Fiji share a common philosophy for education to uphold, seeing the morale purpose and education in terms of increasing access and quality education by reducing the gap between the rich and poor, rural and urban, girls and boys.

"The Government also recognizes the challenges facing many educational institutions, these challenges include in adequate facility and inadequate infrastructure, curriculum   that are in adequate to meet the challenges of Nation building and of course in adequate in appropriate staffing," he said.

Few of Government's initiatives are the provisions of bus fares for students to increase excess to education and also the idea of zoning of schools.
