The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in its June 30th Report outlined a breach of Centers of Excellence – Ministry of Education project by certain identified schools.
Three schools were initially selected Naitasiri Provincial School, Nadroga/Navosa School and Nabua Secondary School.
The need for Fijian and Rotuman schools and students to strengthen community support was through the development of Centers of Excellence (COE) to lift morale, commitment and educational performances of indigenous students.
The PAC Report says Centre of Excellence project was later changed to focus only on Government owned schools from 2004 mainly because of mismanagement of the Funds in the selected Provincial Schools.
A common concern in the three centers ( Naitasiri Provincial School, Nadroga/Navosa School and Nabua Secondary School) was the use of grants for other purposes that were not in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The PAC Report states that this reflected the laxity of supervision and monitoring of the projects by the Ministry of Education.
