Outlined below are important school dates and assigned public holidays for the year 2011:
2011 School Term Dates
Term 1 – 24/01/2011 – 29/04/11 [14 weeks]
Term 2 – 16/05/2011 – 19/08/11 [14 weeks]
Term 3 – 05/9/2011 – 02/12/11 [13 weeks]
The Ministry of Labor, Industrial Relations and Employment has advised that the 10 public holidays that will be celebrated in the year 2011 are to be kept as public holidays in all workplaces in Fiji.
The 2011 public holidays have been gazette as Gazette Notice No. 1439 in the Republic of Fiji Gazette No. 97/2010 dated 20/8/2010.
“It is noted that, as a minimum condition, all workers in any workplace are entitled to be paid in respect of each public holiday for the normal rate of pay which the worker would normally have worked on that day,” a ministry statement reiterated.
“In case of any work on a public holiday, the worker is entitled to be paid the single rate of pay in addition to the entitlement above.”
