The Fiji Police Force has welcomed comments by the public that they want to be aware of the new laws outlined in the New Crime Decree, which came into effect in February this year.

There had been questions raised by public this week in one of the local dailies enquiring if the Police will be going around the country to educate the general public on the laws.

In response to this query, the Police Spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri has welcomed the interest among the general public to learn about the laws in the Crime Decree.

“It is good that people are taking interest in wanting to know the new laws which are into effect,” Mr Sokomuri said.

He said the Police is already conducting awareness on the Crime Decree through its community-policing unit.

“We have been going around to the different communities, settlements, villages and youth groups educating them on the new decree.”

He said to those those who either did not know or wanted to be aware of the new laws to visit their nearest police stations and take assistance of the police officers to help them understand the laws in Crime Decree.

“For people who want to be aware of the laws and for any clarifications regarding the Crime Decree, please feel free to visit the nearest police stations in your respective districts and divisions.

“The police are here to serve you and we would be most willing to assist you. In fact police is happy that the public is interested to know these laws,” Sokomuri added.
