QUALIFICATIONS TO BE ACCREDITED INTERNATIONALLY

25/07/2012

The Higher Education Commission says there is a need for qualifications to be accredited and recognised both locally and internationally.

HEC Director, Mrs Salote Rabuka opened a workshop on qualification accreditation process today at the Pacific Regional Seminary where four institutions are piloted for the process.

“The accreditation process gives assurance to the Government and the public on quality, relevance and consistency in the standards of our qualifications,” Mrs Rabuka said.

The six-member Higher Education Commission established in 2010 regulates the operation of higher education institutions and the task at hand is to ensure the process of accreditation is clearly understood by those involved in the process.

She said workshops such as this are important in determining the quality of the accreditation process.

“It is there important that as providers of training, institutions are fully acquainted with the criteria against which their programmes and qualifications will be assessed to determine their suitability for accreditation”.

Fiji had launched the Fiji Qualifications Framework in 2012 which recognises local qualifications nationally, regionally and internationally.
