Having completed several months of online learning, Queen Victoria School students are glad to be back on campus, knowing they will no longer have to stay in a temporary boarding facility.
This follows the commissioning of phase one of two new hostel facilities at the Queen Victoria School by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama (01/04/22).
“It is a joy to celebrate not only the completion of two excellent hostel facilities, but the fact that we are here today — thanks to the assistance of our great friend, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia,” PM Bainimarama said.
“The dormitory facilities here were damaged beyond repair by TC Winston in 2016, and the Government of Indonesia adopted this project through the Fijian Government’s Adopt a School Programme, at a cost of $3.9 Million.”
“These facilities are built to withstand the kinds of winds that TC Winston assaulted Fiji with. Should another strong storm come this way, we know these buildings will be here after the winds die away,” he added.
Prime Minister Bainimarama highlighted that a two-storey building with classrooms, science labs, a computer lab, and teachers’ rooms will be constructed this year to replace two classroom blocks at the school block area.
